To those who tend to read quickly but understand slowly, this editorial could be interpreted as being sympathetic to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. It is nothing of the sort. My written record in this space makes it clear that it would require a long and hard search to find another writer with greater contempt for the man than I have. And that long and hard search would fail because my hostility toward everything he stands for is bottomless. His shameless, cheese-eating, broad-grinning brand of corruption is as disgraceful to the culture as it is corrosive to the country.

But while we are taking inventory of the millions of dollars in gifts, bribes and prizes that good ole Uncle Clarence has accepted from his billionaire benefactors since he was appointed to the court way back in ’91, we need to also take stock of the bigger picture. Because even for a negro hating negro like Clarence Thomas, the context in which events unfold still matters.
